Culture/race/heritage are sensitive words and topics. I believe it is important to understand as much as we can about our own personal histories and origins in order to cultivate an appreciation of all those that came before us. Moving forward tends to be easier when we know where we are coming from.
I am in constant contemplation of the things, places + people that surround my everyday experiences; these interactions then begin to ceaselessly assist in creating my individual and unique narrative. Everyday objects inevitably become mementos that continuously speckle the path of my life.
I see each of my installations as a conglomerate of memories like the picture frames that accumulate the walls of family homes. As in those images, my work tells a chronological story, the one after continuing the narrative from the one before. The duality of both Mexican and American culture continues to be the stepping stones of my experience; ceaselessly feeding the pages of my life.
